“This is the best interview ever!” shouted New Orleans rapper Dee-1 during our conversation at The Loft in Lansing, Michigan. “This man is dope; this man knows everything. He’s asking me about my oil leak in my 1997 Oldsmobile Achieva,” he said, pausing on several occasions to savor the moment with a nearby assistant.
Rapping acapella, the former middle school teacher even took it upon himself to recite the very same verse he spit in front of his studends, in its entirety, for the first time since they discovered Mr. Augustine was more than just their instructor—he was also an aspiring MC.
“This dude knows my whole life story,” he added, as we went on to discuss his first of many encounters with Mannie Fresh, holding the door open for B.G. and Turk at Walmart, installing a TV in the headrest of Lil Wayne’s SUV, and growing up across the street from Curren$y.
“Usually I’ve got a lot of stuff to say, but this man obviously knows everything about me, so there ain’t really too much to say right now. Just keep supporting his movement ’cause I really rock with this; this is a dope interview, man.” – Dee-1
