Wiz Khalifa, Bruno Mars & B.o.B Cover VIBE

Wiz Khalifa, Bruno Mars, and B.o.B are recognized as “The New Pop Music” on the cover of VIBE‘s February/March issue! Each artist has battled his way to the top of the charts with a unique sound, making the trio prominent figures in pop culture. The issue to hit newsstands February 22nd! In the meantime, below are a few excerpts:

WIZ KHALIFA: Potheads and hippies, we flock. We’re peaceful as hell. You don’t hear about my concerts getting shot up or people getting beat up because they was too high and turned into a weed monster.

BRUNO MARS: I’m a fan of young Elvis. And I’m a fan of the story, how he freaked out white America by doing this Black rock’n’roll. He would go onstage shaking his hips, and people were freaking out. They said, “You can’t film him from the waist down.” To me, that’s fucking awesome.

B.o.B: My loyalty is not to any corporation, my loyalty is to the music. That doesn’t mean that I don’t work with corporations, it doesn’t mean that I don’t sell music—it just means that first I’m an artist regardless of anything.

Feature Artist: Sam Adams, KiD CuDi & Kanye West In The Studio

Last night, my “Feature Artist” Sam Adams had the pleasure of meeting KiD CuDi and Kanye West in Ye’s NYC recording studio! Mr. West previewed material from his much anticipated upcoming joint album with Jay-Z—currently scheduled for a late March release—and Sam has since satisfied hopes of many Hip-Hop enthusiasts: “Watch The Throne tracks are outta control”, Adams expressed on his Facebook page in conjunction with sharing the image above. In my talks with Sam’s manager, Alex Stern, I discovered that Sam didn’t record any music with either of the G.O.O.D. Music representers. However, fans of Boston’s Boy remain at the edge of their seats in anticipation of a Cudder collaboration. During our September interview, Sam had the following to say in regards to his forthcoming full-length debut album features:

Who do you got lined up for features?
Not sure yet. We’re still sort of figuring everything out. You know, whether or not we’re gonna sign a major deal for this next album sort of depends on the buzz of the mixtape.

I heard you might be looking at CuDi.
Yeah. We’re goin’ to talk to CuDi. Thinkin’ about, you know, CuDi; J. Cole; gettin’ a bunch of, like, big DJs to sort of co-sign the music — might get some productions there.

Lil Wayne’s Rolling Stone Cover Story [Scans]

Here are scans of Lil Wayne’s outstanding cover story from the latest issue of Rolling Stone, which is on newsstands now! Below, is an excerpt that reveals Tha Carter IV is currently scheduled for an April release:

Wayne still resents the reception Rebirth got (he says critics “aborted it”), but he knows he can’t afford another misfire. He’s had to watch from the sidelines as guys like Eminem and Kanye have reclaimed hip-hop’s spotlight; even his protégés could plausibly claim to have more heat. In one WeezyThanxYou letter, he told Minaj that he was jealous of her and Drake; he followed with a “ha ha,” but it didn’t sound like a joke.

Now he wants his spot back. He’s prepping Tha Carter IV for an April release, maybe March if the promotional machine can gear up fast enough. He’s been in the studio with T-Pain, with Kanye. He has three or four tracks from before his jail stint that are too good to ignore; otherwise, he says, it’s all new.

Lil Wayne Covers Rolling Stone

They say the third time’s a charm. Lil Wayne tests this theory and boasts his inked frame as he covers the new issue of Rolling Stone! In the accompanying article—which marks his first print interview since being released from jail this past November—Weezy exhales information about his eight month term at Rikers island. The issue hits newsstands January 21st. In the meantime, a few excerpts from Mr. Carter’s cover story can be found below:

Gambling For Commisary:
“I’d bust a nigga’s ass at Uno,” he told writer Josh Eells. “We gamble for phone time. I’d take nigga’s commissary: Lemme get them cookies, lemme get them chips, get that soup.”

LeBron James and Dwayne Wade:
When Wayne sat court-side at a recent Miami Heat/New Orleans Hornets game he was upset that Lebron James and Dwayne Wade never came over to talk to him. “Them niggas never speak to a nigga,” he says. “They don’t chuck me the deuce or nothing. Nigga spent all that money on them fucking tickets… Come holla at me. We sit right by them little bitch-ass niggas. At least come ask me why I’m not rooting for you.”

New Reading Material:
In prison he read biographies of Jimi Hendrix, Jim Morrison, Marvin Gaye, Joan Jett, Vince Lombardi and Anthony Kiedis. “[Kiedis'] Scar Tissue was really good,” he says. “I also read the Bible for the first time. It was deep! I liked the parts where some character was once this, but he ended up being that. Like he’d be dissing Jesus, and then he ends up being a saint. That was cool.”

Solitary Confidment:
He spent his final month in jail in solitary after he was caught with an iPod charger in his cell. It could have been worse: He also had a watch with an MP3 player on it, but another inmate took the rap. “He was a solid nigga,” says Wayne. “Shout-out to Charles…Solitary was the worst. No TV. No radio. No commissary. Basically you’re in there 23 hours a day.” The only upside was he had a window where he could watch cars go by. “I used to sit at that motherfucker all day,” he says.
